With Memory-Map you can:

Display topographic maps and nautical charts on your computer. A variety of commercially available and public domain maps can be used. Memory-Map topographic maps are available for Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Europe. These are the best and most convenient cartography products for use with Memory-Map software. Each package includes elevation data for 3D viewing, and a Gazetteer for place name lookup.
Plan routes and mark waypoints. The maps are precisely calibrated, so you can plot geographic positions, and measure distances and bearings.
Terrain elevation data is used to display 3D views and to calculate travel time taking into account the amount of ascent and decent along the route.
Create and save 3D Fly-through movies of routes and tracks (PC only) in .avi format. Use your favorite video editing package (or Windows Movie Maker, included free with Windows XP) to edit or resize the resulting video to share with your friends, race participants or on the internet.
Print maps, including your own overlay data.
Plot your position from a positioning device such as a GPS. Any device that outputs the NMEA 0183 protocol can be used.
Program a GPS: Transfer routes, waypoints and proximity alarms to the GPS, and upload track-logs from the GPS. Garmin, Silva, Timex and Magellan GPS units are supported (there is limited support for other GPS's, click here for details on compatible GPS units)
Performance review: Record a tracklog, using either a handheld GPS or using real-time tracking. For any point of the track, display the time you were there, your speed and altitude. Plot a graph of elevation or speed along the track.
Send and receive email containing your routes, marks, track-logs and your current position. Combined with a data-capable cell phone or satellite phone, this is a great way to keep in touch with friends and family while you are travelling, and to organize group events.
Create "HotSpots", which are icons on the map, linked to photographs, audio recordings... in fact any external file. You can open the linked file from Navigator to view the image, etc.
All this functionality is available on a Pocket PC as well as laptop & desktop computers.

Customisable Navigation Window	Use the Goto waypoint or Follow route command and a pop-up window will display a pointer arrow showing the direction you should take as well as the bearing and distance to the next waypoint. Lock on to GPS	Automatically selects the most appropriate map, then as you move, keeps your current position in the centre of the screen whilst the map scrolls. Provides a constant view of your current position and surrounding area.
Waypoint click and drag	Enables you to quickly enter and plan a route using multiple waypoints. Simply click to enter a new waypoint then if necessary drag it to alter its position.
Waypoint / Route lock	All waypoints and routes can be locked individually. This ensures that once it is set, a route or waypoint cannot be accidentally moved out of position.
Email waypoints, routes, positions and tracklogs or post to a website	It's easy to share your favourite routes and tracks or simply tell someone where you are. Click on a waypoint, route, track or GPS position and send via email. Great for groups planning joint trips and 'rendezvous'. Can also be saved on disk for reference or distribution.
Distance from current position	Simply clicking on the map will show the distance and bearing from your current position. Enables fast cross checking of your position with a compass using bearings from known landmarks.
Alternate Chart Views	Enables you to have two alternate views of the same chart at different locations and/or zoom levels. Useful for a high level and detailed view of your current position or to toggle between start and end points of a route.
Multiple Windows	Multiple charts can be opened, and then tiled on the display, either vertically or horizontally.
Night Colours	A menu option switches the display to lower intensity night colours to preserve night vision in low light surroundings.
Voice Memo Position Marks	Press the record button on your Pocket PC to place a mark at your current position and record your own message. eg "This would be a great spot to set up camp."
Satellite Display Status	Displays a graph of satellite signal strength to provide a visual indication of your GPS unit's current status. Especially useful when your GPS is first trying to calculate it's current position. (NMEA mode only)
